Comparing ourselves to those who are higher will only distance us from gratitude. Instead, look at those who are less fortunate, who are much harder off, as it will evoke a sense of "Then which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?"
There are people who go hungry all day because they have no bread to eat, students who are in tatters because it's all they have, children crying from hunger because their parents have no money, parents sleeping on the streets because they have no coin.

Sometimes without realizing, the RM5 we spend is the reason someone gets to eat after a day of hunger. It might not seem significant to us, but it could be a blessing for someone else.
